I am originally from Gahanna, Ohio, and currently reside in Columbus, Ohio. I attended the Columbus College of Art and Design. The first couple of years that I spent at C.C.A.D. I concentrated on ceramics, and fully intended on becoming a studio potter. While researching the subject of vessels, I discovered the art of woodturning, and was immediately hooked. Without hesitation I went out and purchased a lathe, some tools and some wood. Without formal instruction, I was forced to teach myself the skills associated with woodturning. A lot of my woodturning education came from books and by studying the works of prominent artists such as William Hunter, Mark Lindquist, Christian Burchard and David Ellsworth. With my newly acquired knowledge, I began to build a body of work.
In my current line of work, I am concentrating on simplicity. Influenced by traditional utilitarian ceramics and woodturning, I am using the basic bowl form as a sculptural form. In doing this I am trying to convey the link between society and nature. I feel that mankind and nature share an unbreakable bond and that the humble wood bowl is the best way to show that message.
